What to Expect From an In-Home Vet Visit in Miami-Dade
If you have never had a vet come to your home, you might wonder how it works. Where does the exam happen? What can a mobile vet actually do? And what should you do before the doorbell rings? This guide walks you through a typical in-home vet visit with Concierge PetVet, a mobile veterinary practice led by Dr. Nicole Chavarry, DVM, serving pets across Miami-Dade.
Why families choose a vet who comes to them
For many pets, the hardest part of a vet visit is everything before the exam: the carrier, the car ride and the waiting room full of strange smells and noises. At home, your pet stays in a place they know. That makes in-home care a good fit for:
Anxious or fearful pets who shake, hide or struggle at the clinic.
Cats who hate the carrier and the car.
Senior pets and pets with mobility problems who find travel hard on their bodies.
Multi-pet homes, where everyone can be seen in one visit.
Busy families who would rather not lose half a day to driving and waiting.
A calmer pet also helps the exam itself. Heart rate, blood pressure and behavior are often closer to normal at home, which gives a clearer picture of your pet's health.
Before the visit: how booking works
Visits are Monday to Friday, with the last booking at 4pm, and Saturday visits by advance request. Before your visit, we ask a few questions about your pet's history, behavior and any concerns, so Dr. Chavarry arrives prepared.
New clients
Fill out the visit request form on our Pricing & Booking page and tell us about your pet. Our team will call you to talk through your pet's needs and pick a time that works.
Existing clients
Book online by choosing a two-hour arrival window, or call us at (786) 898-1962 for same-day or urgent visits.
How to get ready
You don't need to clean the house or set up anything special. A few small steps make the visit go smoothly:
Keep your pet in one room before we arrive, especially cats, so nobody has to search under the bed.
Pick a quiet, well-lit spot where your pet feels relaxed. A couch, a bed or the floor all work.
Gather records from other vets, plus a list of medications, supplements and food.
Write down your questions so nothing is forgotten.
Share access details like gate codes, parking tips or which door to use.
Ask about food if bloodwork or sedation is planned. We'll tell you if your pet should skip a meal.
During the visit
A calm hello
We let your pet come to us. Fear-free handling, treats and patience come first, so your pet can settle before the exam starts.
A full nose-to-tail exam
Dr. Chavarry checks eyes, ears, teeth, heart, lungs, skin, joints and weight, and can check blood pressure and run an ECG when needed.
Tests and treatments at home
Many things can be done right there: vaccines, rapid in-home SNAP tests, cytologies, blood draws with same-day lab submissions, microchipping, and mobile ultrasound.
Time to talk
There's no crowded waiting room behind us, so you can ask questions and go over a care plan together, in English or Spanish.
No surprises on price
Before any extra test or treatment beyond the exam, we explain it and give you the price, and nothing is done until you approve it.
What if my pet needs more than a home visit?
Some care needs a hospital, like X-rays, major surgery, dentistry or sterilization. In those cases, we coordinate with our partner clinics and can help with door-to-door transportation, then check on your pet's recovery at home. Learn more about pet surgery and diagnostics.
After the visit
Your pet stays home to rest, with no stressful ride back. Lab results are shared as soon as they arrive, and you have a direct line to Dr. Chavarry for follow-up questions. For established patients, quick check-ins and medication follow-ups can often be done by telehealth video visit.
How much does an in-home vet visit cost?
Every visit includes a house-call fee based on your distance from our Palmetto Bay base, plus the exam fee and a small medical-waste fee. A standard visit within 7 miles starts at $160, and each extra pet in the same home gets $15 off. In-home vet visit questions
Do I need to be home during the visit?
Yes. An adult who knows the pet should be there to share history, help keep the pet comfortable and approve any treatment.
Can you see more than one pet in the same visit?
Yes. One house-call fee covers the whole home, and each extra pet gets $15 off their exam.
My cat hides as soon as someone arrives. What should I do?
Keep your cat in a small room with the door closed before we arrive. We'll take it slow and let your cat settle before the exam.
Can you give vaccines and do bloodwork at home?
Yes. Vaccines, blood draws, SNAP tests and many other tests are done at home, with same-day lab submissions for faster results.
Which areas do you serve?
We travel up to 20 miles from our Palmetto Bay base across Miami-Dade. Enter your address on our Pricing & Booking page to see your zone and price.
